Getting An Iron Hill Retrievers Puppy.

Taken from another breeder:
- From a retired breeder, a fellow breeder, mentor, and friend -

Seems many people are looking for the cheapest possible puppy now a days and get offended when a breeder won't lower their asking fee...Here is how a good breeder feels about that:

Quality isn’t cheap and cheap isn’t quality!
Did you know:
Dogs don’t always deliver naturally and may require c-sections. C-sections can cost over $2000 with no guarantee of any live puppies or the female surviving.

There may be a puppy or puppies in need of assistance to survive. Your breeder may have to hand feed. Every few hours, around the clock. Meaning that your breeder is on lockdown for days to weeks after delivery.

Your breeder may not allow visitors. They are not hiding anything, but for the security of their home & family, they don’t want to give their address out to every potential buyer. It’s a private residence, not a pet store. Visitors can also bring parvovirus into the house, which could wipe out an entire litter(s).

Your breeder loves and takes great care of the puppies and wants homes for them, where they will receive love and proper care for the puppies entire life.

Did you know that for every person that buys a puppy, your breeder has responded to inquiries from at least 20(+) other people who have no intention or means to buy a puppy at all. This takes up a lot of a breeder’s time that could be better spent caring for their dogs.

Did you know your breeder has researched the breed and has spent years trying to bring you the best possible puppies? This includes evaluating pedigrees, health records, etc. with the goal of producing happy, healthy puppies. Responsible and ethical breeders health test, and these tests are not free.

Did you know your breeder considers no question a dumb question and is available for a lifetime of support?

Did you know breeders have feelings? Breeding can be extremely stressfull; Please be understanding.

Did you know breeding is not a get rich quick scheme? Your breeder is very happy to just break even, if that.

Your breeder is offended when asked for a cheap puppy! And rightly should be!

A lot of thought and process is taken in consideration in doing a pairing, to ensure wonderful temperaments, health, and genetics.

Here, some of our Sires and Dams are involved in the community, being shown, receiving CGC (Canine Good Citizenship Certificate), producing service, therapy and or facility puppies for programs. We feel this states a lot about the kind of temperament our dogs have, as well as what they will produce.

We work hard to match you with the appropriate puppy because we want a puppy that will be right for you in the long run. Breeding, raising, training, and living with a variety allows us to observe each breed’s strengths. Because we have been doing this for over a 15 years, we are well-qualified to assist you in determining which breed is right for you and your family. When purchasing a Iron Hill Retrievers puppy, we don’t disappear after your check has been cashed. You are part of our Iron Hill family for the lifetime. We are available to help answer any questions about your puppy/dog that you may have.

Our policy here has change recently.

Getting a wonderful family member is worth waiting for. Many times it can take months to get the right puppy. This is a 12 plus year commitment that is worth the wait and should never be rushed.

If the opportunity isn't available, to come visit. We have several references of families who have received one/two of our puppies, as well as trainers who have work with our puppies for service and therapy work. We are vet recommended, inspected by the sate of Iowa and Akc.

We understand your excitement in getting your new puppy, as we are as well. Iron Hill's focus, for the next 8 weeks is to provide as much stimulation as possible to ensure a well rounded puppy. Keeping the environment/surrounding calm for mother and puppies for the next few weeks. We hope you understand, if we have a litter we will not allow any visitors. Each day we work with these puppies, starting with Early Neurological Stimulation for the next 2 weeks, then introducing Rule of 7 for the following weeks. We enjoy watching the puppies grow, explore, playing, and learning, as well as start crate training at 5 weeks, teaching them to potty in a certain area.

Cant get enough, hugging, kisses and licks!

Our policy we have a form/questionnaire to fill out after we verbally communicating with prospective families. Is a way we can get to know you, as well as you get to know us. Prospective families will fill out the form without taking any deposits at this time until pregnancy is confirmed. We will only take two deposits for each sex.

Will contact families who have a deposit and on a waiting list 2 to 3 weeks after the litter is born. Iron Hill Retrievers want to ensure puppies are available for each family.
